Anti-bullying Week 2011

The 2011 Anti-bullying week commences on the 14th November and is based around the themes of ‘I have a right to be safe’ and ‘stop and think – words can hurt’.

At St Mary’s we are bringing Anti-bullying into focus through numerous activities that are running over a two week period. These include:

•    The selling of ‘Anti-bullying’ wristbands that pupils can wear throughout the two weeks and other personalised merchandise that pupils can buy from the Technology department to raise awareness of Anti-bullying
•    A creative English competition throughout KS3 to design Anti-bullying poems that have the potential to be displayed around school
•    A focus in Form Time and Assemblies on the different types of bullying and what pupils can do if they are affected
•    Each Form will be producing their individual Form Pledge to show unity in standing up against bullying
•    A dedicated SEALS focus on Anti-bullying for Year 7 with Circle Time to encourage pupils to talk
•    Interactive PDC lessons throughout KS3, KS4 and KS5 based on the issues surrounding bullying
•    An updated Anti-bullying email address and telephone/text numbers pupils can contact anonymously if they are affected, or know someone who is affected, by bullying

What to do if you think your child is being bullied
If you think your child is being bullied you should report it. There are several ways this can be done:

•    By speaking to an appropriate member of staff in school by phone
•    By reporting the incident through our dedicated e-mail address
•    By reporting the incident on the schools dedicated telephone line for bullying incidents

If you are concerned about something, even if you are unsure whether it is bullying, you should contact your child’s Form Teacher so that your concerns can be addressed.
