Committees

The work of the Governing Body is shared between a number of committees that meet at least once a term. Each committee then reports back to the full body of governors at the scheduled meeting. There are 3 main committees at St Mary's:

The Finance and Premises Committee
This committee takes a strategic view when considering the costing implications of various building works and, in particular, how it will impact on the school budget in its entirety. It must ensure that there is adequate funding available in the long term to achieve its aims by looking at sources of both capital funding and revenue funding.

The Personnel Committee
The Personnel Committee addresses all aspects of both teaching and support staff including defining the specification for each role and recruitment.

•Governors’ Personnel Committee meets on Tuesday 20th September 2011.

The Curriculum Committee
The Curriculum Committee is mainly responsible for the academic life of the school, ensuring that each pupil in the school has access to a balanced and broadly based curriculum in line with governmental requirements and with the opportunity to leave school with qualifications relevant to their abilities.

Some of the areas covered by the three main committees may overlap. Governors are frequently members of more than one committee and as such can bring their experience in one area to address a need in another. There are also further smaller committees which meet as required to consider particular areas, for example Admissions, Pay and Pupil Discipline.

Members of a committee act on behalf of the whole Governing Body.
