1. Providing opportunities to develop and practice Christian values through the study of people of different cultures and races fostering tolerance and understanding and breaking down traditional stereotypes.
2. Being committed to fostering good working relationships with pupils. Every effort is made to assist pupils in and out of lessons to achieve their full potential. This is often on a one to one basis. New members of staff are helped and guided through departmental administration by a supportive team of colleagues.
3. Raising awareness of the needs of people around us through local studies in all years. These touch on environmental and community issues.
The variety of topics covered help to develop an interest in the subject as a basis for preparation for later life. Work is differentiated according to ability and delivered through a variety of teaching and learning styles. Opportunities are given for students to develop their own talents and abilities e.g. Enquiry work in years 10 and 11. Residential fieldwork provides an opportunity for co-operation and team work as students develop more maturity.
Through the work of the Department we aim to help every student develop their academic and personal potential while enjoying the subject to the full.
