Curriculum Overview

Learners at Key Stage 3 have one hour per week of ICT. Topics they study include:

•Using the Internet & E-Safety
•Computer modelling
•Presenting to different audiences
•ICT & Society
•Databases
•Web Design
•Spreadsheets

In Key Stage 4 learners follow the OCR GCSE course which allows them to demonstrate their skills in both controlled assessment and exam situations. This provides our learners with the opportunity to hone both their practical and theoretical their learning skills. We are also experimenting with new ways of delivering revision materials, such as through Twitter or by using podcasts

Learners following the core curriculum who did not pick ICT as an option receive one hour per week following the Award in Digital Applications (AiDA) course, which is the equivalent of a single GCSE.

At Key Stage 5 the department offers A Levels in ICT (OCR exam board) and Computing (WJEC). We also offer the BTEC Level 3 National in ICT course.

In 2009 the ICT students achieved an A* to C rate of 70% with 100% of students who started the course attaining a GCSE equivalent grade.

The ICT department is committed to creating independent learners with independent minds.
