This term the MFL department was assigned Business Language Champion. This scheme is run in conjunction with Salford University and CILT (The national Centre for Language.) Our BLC has been in to St Mary’s this term to work with Y8 and Y9 and more visits and projects are planned for next term. The programme is funded by the department for education and the quotation below is taken from the BLC homepage.
“The BLC programme inspires and supports employers to work with schools through languages. The programme aims to encourage young people to understand the benefits of learning languages and the exciting and rewarding careers available to them with a language.”


Year 11 have just received their results for Module 2 and Module 4 of the GCSE qualification, which counts as 60% towards the final grade. There were some truly outstanding results in both Spanish and French.

Spanish
Module 2 – 28 A* grades and 11 A grades.
Module 4 – 17 A* grades and 18 A grades.

French
Module 2 – 9 A* grades and 7 A grades.
Module 4 – 4 A* grades and 4 A grades.

After the Easter break the MFL department will be offering our KS3 pupils the chance to learn Portuguese as part of our extra curricular programme.

On April 12th, Year 11 linguists will be taking part in a workshop called the 12 golden rules for attaining and A* grade. An external consultant is in to work with the cohort around maximising grades in the listening & responding and reading & responding papers. John Connor is a leading practitioner in MFL teaching and learning as well as an examiner for Edexcel.  We hope that Y11 get a lot out of this event and build on the amazing success already attained in Module 2 and 4.

It has been another busy term for the MFL department and next term is even busier as the exam season approaches. Good luck to all pupils and thank you for all of your hard work and efforts.
