Let's Sing 2011

After months of preparation, on Wednesday March 23rd 2011 many students from all years took part in a huge annual concert, 'Let's Sing' at Robin Park in Wigan. This time, St Mary’s had the pleasure of organising the event.
Keith Orrell came into school on numerous occasions to tutor both the Year 7 and Senior Choir. Many students from St Mary’s auditioned for and landed a solo part in some of the performances; Hannah Parr (Year 13) , Lauren Smith (Year 10) and Helena Goddard (Year 7) sung solo in ‘Ain't No Mountain High Enough’; Chloe Chadwick, Lucy Sproston, Jake Taylor and Owen Murphy (All Year 7 students) performed as part of two groups for ‘I Have A Song To Sing’; Andrew Coffey (Year 13) gave an excellent rendition of The Scripts ‘For The First Time’ and Georgia Nash (Year 10) impressed everyone with her solo in 'Something Inside So Strong'
All students and staff that took part worked very hard prior to the concert and it certainly paid off. Year 7, Senior Choir and all soloists were a credit to the school and expressed the talent found at St Mary's. Some students have taken part in previous Let's Sing concerts, but for most, this was their first time. For me, the experience has been extremely enjoyable and I hope I can take part in other Let's Sing concerts in the future. I'm also sure that everyone who took part would agree with me.
Students would like to thank the staff from the Music Department for all their effort spent organising Let's Sing and teaching the choirs.

BTEC Music Gig
On Friday 1st April the Year 12 BTEC Music Class put on a gig. There are 16 pupils in the class and within that there are 3 bands . They all worked really hard advertising the gig, selling tickets and setting up for the gig. Each band played two songs. The money raised from ticket sales was given to charity. (There was no teacher input at all)
A year 9 pupil Ashleigh Roberts who went the concert said that "It was a really good gig, I really liked the way the Year 12's did everything on their own"
