The Nurture Centre is an off-site facility based at Saint Ambrose Barlow Presbytery which aims to support students with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. The Centre itself provides a relaxed setting for students to work and looks to improve confidence, self esteem, attendance and attainment.

“The Nurture Centre is an outstanding facility that helps develop the learning and social skills of those with learning difficulties and/or disabilities including some of their parents”.

Students are seen either individually or in a small group and may cover work in some of the following areas:

Transition

If you are new to St. Mary’s you may need extra help to settle into your new school. We work with pupils before, during and after transition to ensure they get the best start.

Relaxation

In a busy school it is not always easy to stay calm or find the space to relax when things become stressful. We work with pupils to help them find the ways to relax that work for them.

Getting the most out of School

If you are not currently achieving your best we are here to help you work out what is getting in the way. By talking through your difficulties, we can help you get back on your feet.

Lunch

Lunch times are very busy in school. We are open each day as a ‘quiet space’ where you can come to play games or talk with your friends. As a reward for effort and hard work, a free buffet lunch is provided for pupils by invitation each Friday.
