Overview

The student guidance team at St Mary’s aim is to support staff, students and parents with a range of different problems that will occur during a school day. We aim to deal with every issue in a prompt and fair manner, and although we do not like to remove students from lessons there may be times when we need to for a variety of reasons.

We aim to offer consistent support to your child throughout each of the Key Stages they will enter during their school career, and to help achieve this we have a professional, caring and committed staff in each Key Stage as well as an Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ Nurture Centre and a new and refurbished Learning Link Centre. We have a fully committed transition team and superb relationships with all primary schools. This enables our support for your child to begin when they are in year 5 (with our feeder schools) and year 6 (with non feeder schools).

Each of the three key stage teams is based in its own office in upper school, lower school and the sixth form block. The structure of these teams is consistent throughout the school, with a Director of Key Stage, an Assistant Director and Student Guidance Professionals for each year group. We also have a Nurture Centre and a Link Learning Centre which can be accessed by all students in the school for extended support.

As well as curriculum areas who work very closely with each Key Stage team we are also able to offer extended support from the Special Needs Department, PC Woodward the school based police officer, school nurse and professionally trained counsellors.

Contact Us

If you need to contact the school for any reason your first point of call will be with your child’s form tutor. As a school we feel it is beneficial to direct the first communication with the form tutor as they will be the person who has the most contact with your child throughout the school day.
