During springtime, Year 10 students were given the opportunity to apply for the role of Student Leader. Successful applicants participated in a Local Authority training session before embarking upon this prestigious role. Having been assigned their duties, a total of 70 Student Leaders are now in place at break and lunch times at strategic locations around the school. Under the guidance of Mr Roberts, great emphasis has been placed on the high expectations the school has of each and every one of them as ‘ambassadors’ and the responsibility that this brings. Paired reading training and practice has already commenced with the new cohort. Student Leaders support a range of school events, including Open Day and Parents’ Evenings.
Students were asked to reflect on their role this year. A selection of pupil comments follow…
I was able to help Year 7 and 8 in the paired reading scheme.
I feel proud that I have been able to help the younger people in the school; it makes the school a better place.
If the universities find out that I have been given this amazing opportunity then they will realise some of the skills and resources that have been offered to me.
I have enjoyed Year 11 and the additional responsibility I have been given.
Throughout the school you are known as a mature person that somebody can rely upon.

A further 10 students were appointed as Senior Student Leaders.
